Seller Tips: 5 Ideas for Small Bathrooms

These ideas for small bathrooms can come in handy when selling your home. You want to make it as attractive as you can to all buyers. One place that can make an impression is the bathroom.

We don’t all have huge, luxurious bathrooms but we can still make them attractive using some or all of the following tips.

#1 – Storage

The old over the toilet standing shelves are not very attractive and the first thing they say to a buyer is “not enough storage.” Instead, try one of these ideas to organize but still look inviting to prospective buyers:

  1. Floating Shelving: These type of shelves are great because you can group them however you like, or just use one. Just make sure to get the ones that are no more than 8.5 inches deep so no one hits their head on them when getting up from the toilet!  Glass, wood, metal or a combination thereof, gives you lots of choices to match your decorating style!
  2. If you have some dead space, make use of it for storage! Sometimes builders just drywalled over space that is perfect for storage (What?!?) Take advantage!  You could use wood, metal, laminate or something else for the shelving.  Just stay away from wire shelving since it’s not too pretty.

#2 – Color

All white bathrooms are featured a lot in magazines. The truth of the matter is, they are soooo hard to keep sparkling clean with such a monochromatic scheme.

Consider adding a few touches of color that will be pleasing but not overpowering in smaller bathrooms. The vanity, shower fixtures, flooring, counter or tile work, the color pop will give the eye a place to travel to! Then, complement with the accessories.

#3 – Shower Curtain/Doors

Like the over the toilet shelving, tub/shower doors are not very popular anymore. Dirt and grime get in the tracks and they are hard to keep clean!

The good old shower curtain is an easy and affordable way to make the tub/shower area look great!

Consider hanging two rods. Use one to hold narrow curtain panels in a fun print or texture. Then hang a clear or solid colored curtain in the middle. It’s sorta like treating that area as you would a window and gives it some pizzazz!

#4 – Updated Fixtures and Lights

This is another inexpensive way to add some pizzazz to your bathroom. Try rubbed bronze, chrome or even black for faucets, towel racks and toilet paper holders. They are unexpected (since brushed nickle was so popular for so long) and a great way to add some character.

Your light fixtures can match (or not), too. If you have the old 80’s “globe” style lights, it’s definitely time for an update! There are a ton of choices out there and most are very affordable. We’ve even seen small chandeliers in powder rooms and they were like WOW!

If you need more light, scatter some slim recessed lighting. Put them on a dimmer switch for bath time relaxation! (Amazon sells these, very affordable!)

#5 – Flooring

Even in a small room, the flooring can make a great impression! Please, please, please, take any carpet out of a bathroom! It’s a recipe for mold, mildew and odor, to say the very least!

If you bathroom has a small footprint, it won’t take much money at all to add a waterproof vinyl plank floor with a cool pattern or even spend a bit more for ceramic tile. A nice floor is very inviting in a bathroom!

Bonus Tip:

The last tip is to keep your bathrooms sparkling clean! Buyers are gonna request viewings of your home at all times of day. Get the family on board to keep things picked up and ready at a moments notice!

A clean bathroom goes a long way with buyers.
